2:30 PM EST 12/16/2012 by Yvette Caslin

Adam Lanza went on a shooting rampage at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtwon, Conn., on Friday, Dec. 14, 2012. Prior to committing this incomprehensible act, Adam shot and killed his mother Nancy, 52, while she laid in her bed.

Sources close to the family say that Nancy was a hoarder, stockpiling food, and she was ?obsessed with guns.? She had five registered in her name and Adam used several of them for the killings ? a Glock and a Sig Sauer, both pistols, and a .223 caliber rifle. She taught Adam how to shoot, a skill she felt was necessary for survival according to her sister, Marsha, 57, a resident of Illinois.

They lived in a Colonial-style house, with four-bedrooms and three bathrooms. It?s estimated to be worth around $537,000, and is situated on 2.19 acres of land.

Nancy believed the economy was on the verge of collapse and that would result in the end of a civilized society. ?Nancy retired so she could care for her son who was ?deeply disturbed.? A former classmate said he dressed formally for school and carried a briefcase to class, while others carried backpacks.

Tim Arnone, 20, his classmate says Adam was ?driven hard? to succeed academically by his parents, particularly his mother. She pushed him really hard to be smarter and work harder in school.? There isn?t a 2010 graduation photo for Adam in the school yearbook; there is a block that reads, ?camera shy.? Click continue to learn more about how the shooting unfolded.
